Страны ареала согласны с целью установления базовых уровней и показателей для оценки и картографирования текущего состояния ключевых мест обитания и популяций снежного барса, по которым можно оценивать будущие изменения, проводить экономическую оценку мест обитания снежного барса и активизировать научные исследования и мониторинг для информирования будущей политики и действие.
Все это основные принципы сохранения снежного барса. Все страны планируют разработать и / или внедрить программы мониторинга, что наиболее важно для определения базовых показателей, по которым можно измерять прогресс в области охраны природы и адаптировать планирование и управление сохранением по мере необходимости. Темы запланированных исследований включают экологию движения снежного барса и добычи, воздействие изменения климата, динамику популяции и болезни.
Предлагаемый GSC — исследования, мониторинг и оценка — поддерживает эту цель. Этот GSC, благодаря вкладу стран ареала, нацелен на достижение приемлемых и последовательных методов, индикаторов и периодичности мониторинга, а также на создание механизмов для сбора и обмена данными с Секретариатом и периодической совместной оценки.
