The Vanishing Treasures Expert Committee has identified the list of participants for the communications workshop on climate and environment storytelling. The list includes journalists from Kyrgyzstan working in prominent Kyrgyz media outlets of photojournalism, video/documentary and print/web media, who regularly cover environmental issues.

1. Burulai Pusurmankulova
This workshop is part of UNEP’s Vanishing Treasures programme (VT) which focuses on Central Asia, to better understand the direct impacts of climate change on snow leopards and their prey, current and possible future vulnerabilities, and responses of local communities to climate change. The communications workshop will focus on strengthening the skillset in understanding and effectively communicating climate change and the linkages between climate change and biodiversity conservation. As part of their training, the journalists will visit field sites in the Ala-Too and Chon Kemin mountains near Bishkek.
This workshop will be facilitated by Baktygul Chynybaev, an internationally recognised senior journalist with expertise in environmental issues. Baktygul Chynybaeva has been working as a healthcare and environmental journalist in Kyrgyzstan for the last 21 years. Since 2014 she has been a correspondent for Azattyk Media and has made stories on health care, environmental issues, climate change, and the impact of these problems on Kyrgyzstan. She runs the weekly program, ‘Healthy Lifestyle’, and on her fortnightly radio program, ‘Green Planet’, she covers topics related to climate change and interviews various sustainability experts. She has taken the initiative in introducing new environmental concepts and awareness to media programs in Kyrgyzstan.
