The issues we intend to address during the meeting are listed below.

- All range countries are in different stages of preparing their landscape specific management plans. Review the status of and needs to finish the management plans for the identified snow leopard landscapes.
- Identify the needs and opportunities for resource mobilization to:
- Implement management plans as the foremost milestone for securing at least 20 landscapes
- Address global support components (issues transcending international borders), including climate change
- Propose an alliance and a strategy to enhance capacity in research and monitoring across the snow leopard range
- Prepare an agenda for the Snow Leopard Summit 2017
- Initiate a campaign to understand and address illegal wildlife trade in snow leopards across the range.
- Announce the Medium Sized Regional (Central Asia) Project approved by GEF to address illegal wildlife trade, trans-boundary cooperation, research, monitoring and capacity building and coordination mechanisms.
The Steering Committee Meeting will be preceded by a Snow Leopard Landscape Management Planning Stocktaking Workshop (click here for a full agenda and a program of the workshop opening ceremony).
A follow-up to this spring’s workshop in Nepal, this meeting will focus on the following issues:
- Review of country-wise status of management planning exercise
- Review of mapping for management planning exercise
- Identification of roadblocks, opportunities and concerns in the on-going/completed process of management planning
- Identification of resources to implement the management plans
- Country-wise and global assessment of status of illegal wildlife trade in snow leopards and other species in its habitat
- Identification of existing networks and strategies, and potential synergies to address illegal wildlife trade, reportedly growing in scale over the past one year.
