3rd GSLEP Steering Committee Meeting

Representatives of the 12 snow leopard range countries gathered on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul in June 2018 for the 3rd Steering Committee Meeting of the Global Snow Leopard & Ecosystem Program (GSLEP) to review their work towards implementing the Bishkek Declaration 2017. They came together to share their experiences and intensify their collaborative efforts towards conserving the snow leopard and its ecosystem across all range countries. At the meeting, representatives discussed the idea of a multi-country Global Environment Facility (GEF) regional project to help close funding gaps and implement national and cross-boundary big cat conservation priorities in Asia. The 3rd Steering Committee Meeting was hosted by the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, and co-organized by the Global Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Protection Program (GSLEP) Secretariat, the United Nations Development Program, Snow Leopard Trust and the Global Environment Facility.

2nd International Snow Leopard & Ecosystem Forum (2017)

The 2017 International Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Forum brought together heads and representatives of the Governments of the twelve snow leopard range countries as well as of other interested nations with leaders from international institutions, donor agencies, conservation organizations and scientific institutions. This high-level event further strengthened the range countries’ ongoing effort to protect the snow leopard and galvanized international support for their ambitious plan of securing 20 snow leopard landscapes by the year 2020. It resulted in the adoption of the 2017 Bishkek Declaration: Caring For Snow Leopards and Mountains – Our Ecological Future.
