3rd GSLEP Steering Committee Meeting

Representatives of the 12 snow leopard range countries gathered on the shores of Lake Issyk-Kul in June 2018 for the 3rd Steering Committee Meeting of the Global Snow Leopard & Ecosystem Program (GSLEP) to review their work towards implementing the Bishkek Declaration 2017. They came together to share their experiences and intensify their collaborative efforts towards conserving the snow leopard and its ecosystem across all range countries. At the meeting, representatives discussed the idea of a multi-country Global Environment Facility (GEF) regional project to help close funding gaps and implement national and cross-boundary big cat conservation priorities in Asia. The 3rd Steering Committee Meeting was hosted by the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, and co-organized by the Global Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Protection Program (GSLEP) Secretariat, the United Nations Development Program, Snow Leopard Trust and the Global Environment Facility.

1st GSLEP Steering Committee Meeting

The first High level meeting of the Steering Committee of the Global Snow Leopard and Ecosystem Protection Program was held successfully on the 19th and 20th of March 2015 near Bishkek in village Koi Tash in the Kyrgyz Tien-Shan Mountains. The meeting of the Steering Committee was presided by the First Vice Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, Mr. Taiyrbek Sarpashev and attended by the Speaker of National Assembly of the Kingdom of Bhutan Mr. Lyonpo Jigme Zangpo. Representatives of the Governments and state bodies of the Afghanistan, China, Mongolia, Nepal, Kazakhstan, the Russian Federation, and Tajikistan were present, alongside international organizations such as the GEF, UNDP, Snow Leopard Trust, World Wildlife Fund, GIZ, the Christensen Foundation, and several other organizations.

1st International Snow Leopard & Ecosystem Forum (2013)

President Almazbek Atambayev of the Kyrgyz Republic and officials representing 12 Central and South Asian countries outlined and endorsed an ambitious new global initiative in Bishkek at the 1st Global Snow Leopard & Ecosystem Forum in Bishkek to protect and conserve critical ecosystems in high-mountain landscapes inhabited by the iconic but endangered snow leopard. Joining with conservation experts from around the world and the international donor community, the 12 nations* endorsed the Bishkek Declaration on Snow Leopard Conservation and the Global Snow Leopard Ecosystem Recovery Program (GSLEP) *Afghanistan, Bhutan, China, India, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Nepal, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan.
