Prior to the GLSEP Steering Committee Meeting (January 19-20, 2017), representatives of snow leopard range countries are invited to participate in a workshop (January 17-18, 2017 at Crowne Plaza Hotel Soaltee, Kathmandu) to take stock of progress, roadblocks, and challenges in creating management plans for the snow leopard landscapes to be secured under the program.

The fundamental objective of the workshop is to share knowledge & build capacity in snow leopard range countries for management planning for GSLEP landscapes. This includes:

  • Review inputs from the April 2016 Kathmandu workshop
  • Review country-wise progress, with highlights on challenges esp. regarding
    • Climate smarting
    • Mapping
    • Expanding to large landscapes
    • Strategic planning and use of Open Standards
  • Fund mobilization
  • Organizational structures to ensure effective landscape level, participatory implementation
  • Discuss the way ahead:
    • Need for any support from Asia High Mountains, Snow Leopard Trust team or others
    • Plan for capacity enhancement of frontline staff and other implementing stakeholders
